Introduction to HTML and CSS

Completing this HTML & CSS course will enable you to do the following and more:

• Understand how HTML and CSS function together
• Use standard elements such as hyperlinks, DIVs, forms and lists
• Create standards compliant web pages and sites
• Use professional developer tools
• Be aware of search engine optimisation practices (SEO)
• Be comfortable editing and updating existing web pages

• What are HTML and CSS and how do they work together?
• Basic elements and how to create hyperlinks
• Working with images
• Using DIVs, forms and lists
• Page structure
• Using Cascading Style Sheets to control the layout and look of HTML elements
• Using Developer Tools to preview CSS changes
• How and when to use In-line CSS
• Creating code that is both readable, compliant with HTML5 standards and good for SEO

This course is provided free of charge to Hackney residents who have UK/EU citizenship and were aged 19 or older on 31/08/2023. To enrol you will need to have a Hackney address. The course runs on 2 days - one day a week for 2 weeks.

A deposit of £16.67 +VAT is required to book. The full deposit is refundable on completion of the course. To complete the course you must attend on both days and complete the enrolment form and any other requested GLA funding related forms.

Places are booked on a first come first served basis. We are operating a stand by / waiting list in case courses are fully booked. This workshop is suitable for anyone with basic PC or Mac skills who wants to understand how the web works. No previous knowledge or experience of HTML or CSS is necessary. If English is not your first language you should have a good level of English in order to participate.
